Where We Work: United Arab Emirates

Women in the United Arab Emirates have full access to high education, and recently the government has implemented measures to increase female participation in the formal economy and in government decision making.

Enrollment in higher education is slightly higher for women than for men in this wealthy federation of states, in part because men tend to seek higher education overseas. Female citizens are encouraged to apply for public sector jobs and are permitted to own private businesses. These factors make participation and leadership in the workforce a lucrative and accessible option for women who possess marketable skills.

WIT began establishing partnerships with local organizations—including the General Women’s Union (GWU)—in 2006. Word quickly spread raining centers quickly reached their capacity and began looking for sites to expand in order to meet the demand for WIT courses. The Ministry of Education also announced approval of accreditation status for the WIT curriculum, increasing the marketability of WIT graduates in the job market.
