Activities for WIT Participants




IT training through Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential (UP) Curriculum

WIT partner organizations received support from Microsoft, including the Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) curriculum and instructor training. Microsoft established each partner organization as a Community Technology Center (CTC). As a CTC, partner organizations were able to offer UP training to women in the community at competitive rates. The eight modules of the UP curriculum provided a solid foundation in basic computer concepts and the essentials of hardware, software, operating systems and the Internet. Topics included:


    Computer Literacy
    • Computer Fundamentals. Provided a solid foundation in basic computer concepts and the essentials of hardware, software, operating systems, and the Internet

    Information Literacy
    • Using the Internet and World Wide Web. Covered exploring the Web using search engines, working with e-mail, and creating Web pages.
    • Digital Media Fundamentals. Taught students how to get started with digital media, including music, photography, and video.

    Productivity Applications
    • Word Processing Fundamentals. Taught students to use a word processor to write and revise a variety of personal and business documents, from simple letters and memos to complex layouts containing graphics and tables.
    • Spreadsheet Fundamentals. Taught students the basics of spreadsheet concepts and practices, including creating worksheets, editing data, building charts and graphs, and publishing spreadsheets to the Web.
    • Presentation Fundamentals. Covered everything students need to know about putting together persuasive electronic presentations, from creating basic slide shows to adding graphics, audio, and video for rich multimedia presentations.
    • Web Design Fundamentals. Took students through the complete process of Web page design, from the basics of HTML to strategies for designing and building a complete Web site.
    • Database Fundamentals. Introduced students to the basics of using a relational database to create tables, forms, and reports.

Professional Development Training for Women

Recognizing that employers seek individuals with more than just IT skills, WIT offered participants five professional development workshops designed to give participants the skills they need to successfully compete in today’s knowledge-based economy.

Workshop topics included:

  • Teams in the Working World (Team Development and Interpersonal Communication)
  • Management Skills (Problem Solving)
  • Leadership Skills (Leadership Styles, Conflict Management, Task Management)
  • Professional Presentation (Oral Presentations, Business Writing)
  • Entering the Job Market (Applying for a Job, Job Interview Skills.)

Professional Development Networks

WIT participants had the opportunity to become members of the professional development networks established at nearly all partner organization. These networks provided participants with a venue to share career resources, discuss and mobilize around issues of shared interest, and engage in mentorship and other activities that promote their professional growth and development.

Online Networking Forum

The WIT Forum provided a virtual platform for participants to exchange relevant professional experiences and tips, meet other WIT participants from their own country or in the MENA Region, discuss WIT trainings, post CVs and look up relevant job listings.
