In fall 2007, WIT expanded its reach to
include Jordan, a country that has committed
to an ambitious set of economic
and political reforms in the 21st century.
Hoping to increase women’s participation
in the political process, King Abdallah instituted
quotas in 2004 to ensure women’s
election to public office. To complement
such initiatives on the grassroots level,
Jordanian NGOs and activists are working
to create more avenues for women to assume
leadership roles in business and
government.
WIT partnered with Shabakat Al Ordon, an NPO dedicated to driving and implementing transformational strategies that improve the economic and social well-being of local communities. Shabakat Al Ordon’s portfolio of initiatives uses ICT as an essential common thread to link youth development, vocational training, community engagement, education, enterprise development, and institution building at the local and regional levels to impact economic and social development on a national scale.
